What is this sinister thing? - A puppet pin in a wing?
Longing to fly but much as one tries
You’re just a kite - in a storm - on a string
Begging the world to cut deep - Edit together the heap
Sew on a smile ignoring the piles
Of the souls that are lining the streets

Through the looking glass we go - The images glisten
Soldiers crying from the snow - Turn off the wind
On every stage the same dark show - One can not NOT listen
And as the wicked wish unfolds the true storm begins

And we’re like birds in the rain holding our peace and our pain
Drowned in the deluge of words spoken backwards
Here we wait for the flying again

Someday will come the blazing son - And we’ll be kissed and warm
And from there on we’ll sing the songs that follow after storms
Electrically transformed

Did you know that birds after rain sing over and over again?
They float in the brilliance of words written skyward
From the One that is coming again

But for now we’re birds in the rain holding our past and our pain
Defying the deluge of love going backwards
While the clock drives us mad with refrains
